What is Education for Ministry?

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a distance learning program in theological education based upon small-group study and practice.  Students sign up one year at a time for the four-year program which covers basic theological education in the Old and New Testaments, Church History and Theology.

Education for Ministry (EfM) is a unique four-year distance learning certificate program in theological education based upon small-group study and practice. Since its founding in 1975, this international program has assisted more than 80,000 participants in discovering and nurturing their call to Christian service. EfM helps the faithful encounter the breadth and depth of the Christian tradition and brings it into conversation with their experiences of the world as they study, worship, and engage in theological reflection together.

How does EfM work across Europe?

Many of our lay members in Europe live a long distance from the parish and cannot commit to attending weekly meetings due to the travel distance, time and work schedules.

EfM Online offers those who cannot attend a weekly face-to-face group an opportunity to participate in this course of study. 1½ hours of dedicated time each week to meet with the group online. Readings, discussions, and other assignments can be completed at any time during the week and posted to a group’s online discussion board.
